Phil Vandenbeukel, B.A. (Hon.)

Coach Phil is a native of Stoney Creek and has been a high-performance athlete since childhood. As a hockey player, Coach Phil ascended to the highest level of junior hockey, playing for the Mississauga Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League. Coach Phil's athleticism crossed over into freestyle wrestling, as he joined the prestigious Brock University wrestling team. Coach Phil medaled at the provincial university championships, and his contributions on the mats assisted the Brock Badgers in earning one of many national university team championships.

Coach Phil continued to test his mettle when he transitioned into No Gi grappling and holds the distinction of winning his weight class at the 2004 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Canadian qualifier event. Coach Phil continued his success as a BJJ No Gi competitor, earning a bronze medal in his weight class at the 2008 International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation No Gi World Championships. Coach Phil's skills as a competitor shine through as a high-caliber instructor.
